Duane Alexander, MD

Duane Alexander, MD, is director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Alexander received his BS from Penn State University and his MD from Johns Hopkins University. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Pediatric Society, and the Society for Developmental Pediatrics. From 1974 to 1978, he served on the staff of the National Commission for Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research.

For more than a decade, Dr. Alexander served as the United States’ observer on the Steering Committee on Bioethics for the Council of Europe. As an officer in the Public Health Service (PHS), he has received multiple PHS awards.

Dr. Alexander is the author of numerous articles and book chapters, most of which relate to his research in developmental disabilities.
