Douglas J. Opel, MD

Douglas J. Opel, MD, is a bioethics fellow at the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center, and an acting instructor in the Division of Bioethics at the University of Washington. Dr. Opel received his BS from Duke University and his MD from the University of Chicago. He served as the chief pediatric resident at the University of Washington.

Dr. Opel currently practices general pediatrics at the University of Washington’s Roosevelt Pediatric Care Center and conducts research on outcomes in ethics consultation and methods to integrate clinical and organizational ethics.

He has presented nationally on topics related to organizational ethics and quality improvement, and has also published articles on bioethical issues in major journals, including Pediatrics and Journal of Clinical Ethics.
