Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center is accredited by the Washington State Medical Association CME Accreditation Committee to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8.75 AMA PRA Category 1™ credits to satisfy the relicensure requirements of the Medical Quality Assurance Commission and the AMA Physicians Recognition Award.

Each physician should claim only those hours for credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

  1. Recognize the ethical and policy issues related to expanding newborn screening.
  2. Recognize the ethical and policy issues related to testing children for risks of adult-onset conditions.
  3. Explain how to balance concerns for privacy and obligations to family members who may be at risk for genetic conditions.
  4. Describe how genetic testing has the potential to improve the quality of health care for children.
